Within the Project Need for Nuts, the potential of the Flemish nut cultivation and processing is investigated. The project aims to promote sustainable land use, sustainable food production and local protein supply. This factsheet focuses on exploring the possible applications of walnut waste streams to increase profitability. To this end, we have compiled a non-exhaustive list of existing and potential applications to inspire farmers and processors of walnuts. However, we do not make any statements about potential yields, as these can be influenced by various factors, such as cultivation conditions, production capacity, marketing and sales capacities of farmers and local market conditions.
